UFC hall-of-famer Matt Hughes condition continues to be a source of great concern several days after he was airlifted to hospital following a major crash that saw a train collide with his pick-up truck at a railway crossing in Illinois.
According to Hughes’ sister, Beth Hughes Ulrici, who has been posting official updates on her Facebook page since Friday’s accident, the family are now consulting with experts on how best to proceed with the legendary fighters care.
“Matt has sat on Triumph Over Tragedy Foundation’s board for five years,” Hughes Ulrici wrote. “The Georgia based nonprofit serves families affected by spinal cord and brain injuries. We are working closely with the foundation on the next steps with Matt’s care including having him evaluated by one of the country’s top Traumatic Brain Injury Centers. We are taking Matt’s situation day by day and ask his fans and colleagues to continue to lift him up in prayer.
The Triumph Over Tragedy Foundation’s primary goal is to aid family’s, “through biblical principles from the initial impact of a tragedy or illness, to the ongoing circumstances faced in the years to come.”
The update comes after hospital officials stated on Sunday that Hughes was in “stable” but “minimally responsive” condition, while Hughes Ulrici had also revealed at the time that the former two-time welterweight champion had no broken bones or internal injuries.
