Former welterweight title contender Demian Maia will get back on the saddle against rising star Colby Covington at UFC Fight Night 119 in Sao Paulo, Brazil on October 28th.
Maia went up against current 170lb champion Tyron Woodley at UFC 214 last month, but despite numerous attempts he simply couldn’t take the divisional kingpin down in order to implement his world-class Brazilian-Jiu-Jitsu skills and as a result ended up losing by unanimous decision.
That brought an end to the 39-year-old’s seven-fight winning streak in the division and he now faces a tough test to get in the win column against a man 10 years his junior.
Covington is currently in the midst of a four-fight unbeaten stretch in the Octagon, with his biggest win to date coming via unanimous decision against Dong Hyun Kim back in June.
That took the dominant wrestler’s career record to 12-1 and saw him climb to No.8 in the welterweight rankings, five places behind Maia.
Maia Vs Colvington joins a UFC Fight Night 119 card that is set to be headlined by the returning Lyoto Machida and Derek Brunson, while Glover Teixeira is also scheduled to fight against Misha Cirkunov elsewhere on the main card of the show in Brazil.
