It appears that former WWE superstar CM Punk will have another fight in mixed martial arts despite experiencing a humiliating loss in his professional debut in the UFC last year.
Punk’s coach Duke Roufus hinted at the star’s return in a post on Twitter this week after posting a picture of him and fellow UFC fighter John Madkessi training together.
“Great #laborday training today with the #roufusport Fight Team,” Roufus wrote. “We are pleased to welcome #UFC Lightweight #lebanese #canadian #johnmakdessi and always a pleasure having #cmpunk both of them are awaiting fight confirmations.”
The 38-year-old CM Punk’s first outing in the Octagon lasted just 134 seconds, with his young up-and-coming opponent Mickey Gall instantly taking him to the mat before he could even land a punch, then transitioning to the fight-ending rear-naked choke.
To his credit, Punk took the high-profile loss on the chin and said he’d be back, and it looks like he’s keeping his word, though it remains to be seen if his next fight actually takes place in the UFC or not.
If it does then that’s probably not going to end well as what little we did see of him last time out suggests that there’s just too big of a gulf in class between the former pro-wrestler and even the lowest ranked fighters in the UFC to overcome at this late stage in his athletic career.
