Following last night’s UFC Fight Night 116 event in Pittsburgh the recipients of the evening’s $50,000 bonus awards were announced.
Earning ‘Fight Of THe Night’ honors was a compelling battle between Gregor Gillespie and Jason Gonzalez on the main card.
Right from the opening bell Gonzalez was throwing everything but the kitchen sink at his opponent, mixing in some dangerous looking head kicks in with his punches and knees, but Gillespie was also up for going toe-to-toe, leading to some highly entertaining exchanges.
However, Gillespie mixed in some excellent double-leg takedowns at times, and in the second round he was able to do so and then transition to full mount, before methodically working for an arm triangle choke that would force his game opponent to tap out.
Meanwhile, Mike Perry earned a ‘Performance Of The Night’ bonus courtesy of a 79 second KO finish against short-notice replacement Alex Reyes, landing a nice elbow from the clinch, then creating the space to drive a big knee to the head that collapsed his opponent like a sack of spuds.
Uriah Hall also earned a performance bonus after an incredible come-from-behind victory against Krzysztof Jotko.
Jotko had came close to finishing Hall during a one-sided first round in which he floored him with a punch and then swarmed in for the finish.
Hall showed a lot of heart to get back to his feet and continue fighting despite continuing to be used as a human heavybag on the feet and the floor for the remainder of the round.
Then, mid-way through the round Hall’s refusal to quit paid off when he launched a straight right that landed cleanly and dropped Jotko hard to the canvas. He was then able to follow up with ground and pound to seal the TKO stoppage.
