A report has emerged that UFC flyweight fighter Henry Cenjudo was caught up in the drama of Monday’s out-of-control fires in the wine region of California, which left at least 11 people dead.
It’s believed that the former Olympic gold medal wrestler was one of many sporting stars attended Ronnie Lott’s celebrity fundraiser at the Mayacama Golf Club in Santa Rosa over the weekend and didn’t immediately heed evacuation warnings as fires approached the area.
“UFC fighter Henry Cejudo didn’t evacuate from the Fountaingrove Inn in Santa Rosa and broke his ankle jumping from a second-story balcony,” the SFChronicle claims Kansas City pitcher Bret Saberhagen and several others informed them.
If true that’s likely to put Cejudo’s scheduled fight with Sergio Pettis at UFC 218 on December 2nd in serious danger of being cancelled, which would be particularly frustrating given that it had already been scrapped once before at UFC 211 earlier this year due to Cejudo suffering a hand injury.
A former 125lb title contender, Cejudo is coming of a KO victory over Wilson Reis last month, and as the No.2 ranked fighter in the division he had hoped that a win over Pettis could push him back towards another shot at long-time champion Demetrious Johnson’s title.
