UFC heavyweight fighter Fabricio Werdum has been charged with common assault after hitting Colby Covington in the face with a souvenir boomerang outside a hotel in Australia earlier this week.
Fellow UFC fighter Dan Hooker happened to be filming the altercation between the two nearby, which let no doubt as to what had occured, although Werdum has since claimed that prior to that Covington had been the troublemaker, making xenophobic remarks and further claims that the welterweight fighter kicked him.
Covington also made further xenophobic and homophobic remarks to Werdum immediately afterwards that were recorded on a live social media broadcast from the fighter himself, but nonetheless, its Werdum who has landed in hot water over the incident after ‘Chaos’ opted to press charges.
The 40-year-old Werdum is now set to face a court hearing in Sydney on December 13th, but in the mean time his attention will have to return to his headlining fight with Marcin Tybura at UFC Fight Night 121 in the city this coming Saturday night.
There had been some speculation that Werdum might be pulled from the event due to his legal issues, but though the UFC have said they are investigating the incident, it looks like they intend to proceed with the headline fight as planned.
