Kelvin Gastelum racked up a devastating knockout victory over former middleweight champion Michael Bisping at UFC Fight Night 122 in Shanghai.
Round One:
The main event of UFC Fight Night 122 is now underway in Shanghai!
Gastelum wings an early left hand, but it’s short. Bisping with a leg kick. Big body kick for Gastelum. Right hand for Bisping.
Gastelum just missing with big shots and an overhand lands for Bisping. Another hard kick to the midsection from Gastelum. He tries for it again and this time stumbles as he does so.
Body kick now for Bisping that’s partially caught by Gastelum. Bisping ducks under a winging blow. Kick for Gastelum and a counter punch from Bisping.
Bisping looking for the right hand. They exchange in close and Bisping misses with a right hand that leaves him exposed as Gastelum connects with a right hand and then follows up with a huge left hook that collapses ‘The Count’ to the canvas.
Bisping looks out, but the referee is slow to react and he eats a few more ground and pound blows before the fight is ended, handing Gastelum another massive highlight-reel knockout at 2.30mins of the first round.
This was always an exceptionally risky fight for Bisping just three weeks removed from losing his title to GSP – a fight which it should be noted he was dropped in before being submitted.
Gastelum’s power proved to be too much for him on this occasion and will propel him up the middleweight ranks towards title contention, while Bisping likely only has one fight left before retiring.
