Mark Hunt has been given the all-clear to continue his fighting career by doctors.
The UFC had put a hold on Hunt fighting in the promotion until he underwent a full assessment of his brain health after he penned a column earlier in the year claiming that he expected to die in the cage and was suffering from both memory loss and slurred speech.
However, it seems that the 43-year-old isn’t in as bad shape as he feared as his results came back better than expected after being tested at the Lou Ruvo Center for Brain Health recently.
“We’ve just had a conference call with the doctors in the States, who gave us the good news,” Hunt’s manager Zen Ginnen told the Daily Telegraph. “So it’s all looking positive.
“The doctor said Mark scored well above average and that he’s good to compete. So they’ll ring the UFC now and let them know. We’re just waiting on the UFC to clear him.”
Hunt’s last fight was a TKO win over Derrick Lewis back in June and he’s now looking at a major fight to mark his comeback, preferably at UFC 221 in Australia on February 11th .
“We would love for Fabricio to be Mark’s opponent in Perth,” Ginnen said. “We think Francis Ngannou is next in line for a title fight [against Stipe Miocic]. So we’d like to go up against Fabricio and hopefully be in line for a title hot at the back end of 2018.”
Hunt has fought Werdum before, losing by TKO in a title elimination fight at UFC 180 in 2014.
