Injury jinxed flyweight star Ian ‘Uncle Creepy’ McCall will try to reverse his run of bad luck in a major match-up with Kyoji Horiguchi at a Rizin FF event on May 6th in Japan.
McCall made his Rizin debut in late December, losing out to Manel Kape after a freak accident in which the former UFC star appeared to cut himself by grazing his head against the ropes, leading to the fight being stopped by TKO in less than two minutes.
To add to his woes, that was McCall’s only fight in the past three years after injuries and illnesses to both his opponents and himself led to the 33-year-old having five fights in a row cancelled in the UFC before negotiating his release from the promotion.
Now he has a hard task ahead of him trying to get the better of Horiguchi, who decided to leave the UFC off the back of a three-fight winning streak in 2016, and has since made a big impression in the Rizin promotion.
To date, Horiguchi has produced a five-fight winning streak in the company, with the majority of those coming en-route to winning the Rizin bantamweight grand-prix last year, where he also simultaneously claimed the 135lb title.
