Is Brock Lesnar on the verge of returning to the UFC?
Yesterday, Dana White fueled talk that he may by uploading a photograph of himself alongside the former UFC heavyweight champion, taken prior to that evening’s WWE Elimination Chamber event, alongside a smiley face on Twitter.
“I’d like to see [Lesnar return],” White told TMZ Sports. “… I’d like to see him come back. When Brock Lesnar won the championship, he was fun…it was fun.”
White has already hinted a few times this year that Lesnar could make a comeback to the Octagon.
For instance, at the turn of the year the UFC president said “yes” when asked by TSN to predict whether he thought Lesnar would fight for the UFC at some stage in 2018.
Then earlier this month on the UFC Tonight show, White again appeared to indicate there was a real chance that he would fight again.
“Brock has always shown interest in coming over and fighting here in the UFC,” White said. “I wouldn’t be shocked if he gave it one more shot.”
The 40-year-old Lesnar stepped away from the UFC and returned to WWE in 2011 after back-to-back losses against Cain Velasquez and Alistair Overeem.
However, he then made an unexpected return to fight Mark Hunt at UFC 200 while still under contract with the WWE in 2016 and emerged with a unanimous decision victory over Mark Hunt.
Lesnar said afterwards that it was the most fun he’d had in years, but there was a sting in the tale as soon after it emerged that he’d tested positive for a banned substance, clomiphene, leading to a year-long suspension and the result being overturned to a no-contest.
