Former UFC light-heavyweight champion Rashad Evans will move back to the division he once ruled when he goes up against Anthony Smith at UFC 225 on June 9th in Chicago.
Evans dropped down to middleweight last year after suffering back-to-back losses at 205lbs, but it didn’t prove to a be a successful move as he’s since endured split decision defeats against both Daniel Kelly and Sam Alvey.
The 38-year-old hasn’t won a fight since 2013, so its likely that this attempt to kickstart his career could be make or break moment as far as his time in the UFC goes.
In Smith he faces another fighter who has just opted to step up to 205lb after falling victim to a TKO loss against Thiago Santos at middleweight back in February.
Smith had been on a three-fight winning streak prior to that, but according to the fighter he had been hit hard by some extremely tough weight-cuts at 185lbs, so he’ll be hoping that he is going to be better than ever now that he won’t have to go through that anymore.
Evans Vs Smith joins a UFC 225 card that’s rumored to be headlined by a middleweight title rematch between Robert Whittaker and Yoel Romero, while Claudia Gadelha fights Carla Esparza, Alistair Overeem goes up against Curtis Blaydes and Joseph Benavidez squares up to Sergio Pettis.
