After months of speculation that Brock Lesnar was about to return to the UFC, the WWE pro-wrestling organization has announced that the superstar has re-signed with them.
“WWE Chairman & CEO Vince McMahon announced today that Universal Champion Brock Lesnar has re-signed with WWE,” a statement from the promotion reads. “Lesnar’s next appearance is scheduled for the Greatest Royal Rumble event, where he will compete against Roman Reigns in a Steel Cage Match for the Universal Title at the King Abdullah Sports City Stadium in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia on Friday, April 27, at 7 p.m. AST.”
However, that doesn’t neccessarily mean that Lesnar’s chances of returning to the Octagon have been shattered, although there are still some questions left about exactly how it would work.
Some sources are claiming that Lesnar’s new WWE deal has an option for him to have at least one, if not more, fights in the UFC, with a potential heavyweight title clash in December against the winner of Stipe Miocic and Daniel Cormier having already been rumored to be under consideration.
On the other hand, other sources have described Lesnar’s new WWE deal as being “short term,” and it is notable that the promotion’s statement doesn’t make any mention of the length of the contract, so he could be free to sign with the UFC again in the near future.
Only time will tell the whole story, but either way, within the last week Dana White seemed certain that Lesnar would return to the Octagon and was telling reporters that technically the former champion remains under contract with the UFC.
