A women’s featherweight encounter between Holly Holm and Megan Anderson has been announced for UFC 225 on June 9th in Chicago.
The fight will be the first ever contested in the women’s 145lb division that isn’t a title fight and will also mark the debut of the former Bellator featherweight champion, Anderson.
The 28-year-old Anderson has won her last four fights in a row in Bellator, with each having been ended inside the distance via strikes, including her most recent outing against Charmaine Tweet, which ended by way of TKO thanks to a head kick and punches to win the title.
Now she’ll go up against the 36-year-old Holm, who is coming off a second unsuccessful attempt to win the 145lb belt, losing out by unanimous decision to the current champion Cris ‘Cyborg’ Justino at UFC 219 in December.
The former bantamweight champion, who shocked the world when she became the first woman to defeat Ronda Rousey in 2015, has struggled to maintain that level of form since and has only emerged victorious once in her last five fights, KO’ing Bethe Correia with a head kick and follow-up strikes in the summer of last year.
Holm Vs Anderson joins a UFC 225 card that will be headlined by a middleweight title rematch between Robert Whittaker and Yoel Romero, while the interim welterweight title is also on the line as Colby Covington goes up against Rafael dos Anjos.
