Cris ‘Cyborg’ Justino has finally received her punishment after punching Angela Magana at a UFC Fighters Retreat in Las Vegas last year.
A rivalry had been brewing between the two fighters for some time on social media before the altercation occured, with Megana having been accused of ‘cyber-bullying’ the Brazilian star by repeatedly making fun of her appearance.
That led to a verbal confrontation when the two fighters came face-to-face at the fighters retreat, with ‘Cyborg’ demanding an apology and then lashing out with a single punch when Magana repeatedly refused to do so.
‘Cyborg’ was cited for misdemeanor battery as a result of the incident, but after a guilty plea she’s been able to avoid a more serious punishment by agreeing to a fine as well as undertaking anger management classes.
“The entire experience was a learning opportunity,” Cyborg wrote on her website. “After the completion of my anger management class, I feel I have gained additional tools which will help me make better decisions on how to handle the negative effects of online bullying and harassment within the work place.
“I am glad to move forward from the experience and have already started to create a national anti bullying program which I hope will help others dealing with similar examples of online bullying to find positive outcomes while empowering them with the self confidence it requires to move past the experience.”
However, Magana, who was released from the UFC last year after failing to win a fight in her three Octagon outings, has indicated that she still intends to pursue a civil lawsuit against the UFC featherweight champion.
“Cyborg completed the anger management classes I requested so charges are dropped cuz the Queen says so👸. But the lawsuit is still happening… #roidrage #fuckmyendocrinesystem,” Magana wrote on Twitter.
