Chad Mendes made a big statement in his first fight in over 30 months at UFC Fight Night 133 by TKO’ing Myles Jury in the very first round.
Round One:
Mendes movile on his feet to start. Kick to the knee from Jury. Cautious opening minute from both men. Two and a half year layoff for Mendes, so he won’t be in any rush as he looks to ease himself back into life in the Octagon.
Head kick attempt from Jury is blocked. Body punch from Mendes. Missed head kick from Jury. Not much happening, but then Mendes suddenly lunges forward with a crushing left hand to the jaw and floors Jury.
Jury on his back trying to recover and Mendes drops down a big punch that seems to hurt his opponent even more and forces him to cover up. More hard shots rain down as Jury is on his knees curled up and that’s it, the fight it brought to a halt by way of TKO at 2.52mins of the first round, marking an impressive return to action for Mendes.
