Following last night’s UFC On FOX 30 event in Calgary, Canada the recipients of the evening’s $50,000 bonus awards were announced.
Earning ‘Fight Of The Night’ honors was the prelim card’s final fight between John Makdessi and Ross Pearson, a hard-hitting war that went the distance, with Madkessi emerging victorious by unanimous decision.
Meanwhile, the first ‘Performance Of The Night’ bonus was handed to main event winner Dustin Poirier after he smashed through Eddie Alvarez in the second round of their rematch.
Alvarez had actually been doing good work on the mat in the second round, but then threw 12-6 elbows down at his opponent, which is illegal, and that forced a stand-up from the referee. Poirier then stepped up a gear instantly and hurt Alvarez with a punch, before charging forward with a knee to the body and follow-up strikes that had ‘The Underground King’ reeling against the cage, until finally a hard elbow strike sunk him to the mat for a TKO finish.
Also earning a ‘Perfomance Of The Night’ bonus was former featherweight champion Jose Aldo, who seemed to be in some trouble mid-way through the first round of his fight with Jeremy Stephens, but then rallied and sunk him to the mat with a brutal body shot, before sealing the TKO stoppage with ground and pound.
