Former UFC interim lightweight champion Tony Ferguson has revealed that he’s now on course to return to the Octagon after being given the all-clear following a spell on the sidelines due to an injury.
Ferguson has been expected to fight Khabib Nurmagomedov for the lightweight title at UFC 223, but just days beforehand the star suffered a complete tear of his left LCL and was forced to withdraw form the fight, leaving Al Iaquinta to step in on short-notice instead.
“Cleared,” Ferguson wrote on Twitter yesterday. “Made That Recovery My Bitch 4 Months & A Day 🌱Thanks Everyone That Believed In Me, Keep That Shit Up🕴Time For Some Chaos & Reclaim Whats Mine- Champ 🕶 🇺🇸🏆🇲🇽 SnapJitsu™️ #snapintuit.”
Unfortunately for Ferguson, things have now moved on in the division during his absence, with Nurmagomedov having defeated Iaquinta to win the title, and he’s now been propelled into a massive money-spinning showdown with Conor Mcgregor at UFC 229.
Meanwhile, Dustin Poirier has emerged as another major contender and could strengthen his case for a title shot even further if he can defeat Nate Diaz at UFC 230.
Nevertheless, Ferguson still holds an impressive 10-fight winning streak in the division and so he’ll be hoping that he can step to the front of the queue and challenge the winner of Nurmagomedov vs. McGregor next.
