Michael Chiesa appears to be headed for a move up to the welterweight division, and it’s believed that his first fight in his new division could come against Carlos Condit at UFC 232 in Las vegas on December 29th, with the two fighters already believed to have verbally agreed to the bout.
Chiesa missed weight for his last fight against Anthony Pettis, coming in 1.5lbs over the lightweight limit and then going on to suffer a triangle armbar submission loss the following night.
That was Chiesa’s second loss in a row, having previously being caught in another submission finish against Kevin Lee, which ended a three-fight winning streak against Mitch Clarke, Jim Miller and Beneil Dariush.
Meanwhile, former welterweight title contender Condit continues to struggle to get back to winning ways, remarkably holding just two wins in his past 9 fights dating all the back to 2012.
In recent times he’s suffered a four-fight losing streak, starting with a split decision loss to Robbie Lawler for the welterweight title, followed by subsequent defeats against Damien Maia, Neil Magny and most recently Alex Oliveira.
If it becomes official, Condit Vs Chiesa will join a UFC 232 card that’s set to feature a women’s superfight between featherweight champion Cris ‘Cyborg’ and bantamweight titleholder Amanda Nunes.
