Nate Diaz’s fight with Dustin Poirier at UFC 230 recently fell through and Dana White has now claimed he’s lost interest in trying to get the star to fight for the time being.
“I’m not interested in making a Nate Diaz fight until Diaz is just dying to fight,” White told ESPN. “We’ll offer him fights, we always offer him fights. We probably offered this kid 50 fights since he fought Conor. When he’s ready to fight, he’ll let us know.”
Poirier recently stated that Diaz had proven to be “a huge headache” during the negotiations for their now-cancelled fight, and White confirmed that he had been difficult to deal with.
“He wanted a fight, we made a fight, we announced the fight, immediately he starts saying he’s not fighting,” White said. “We had a guy here in the company that was a big Nate Diaz fan, a big Nick Diaz fan and wanted to work with them. He’s not as enthusiastic as he used to be.”
It’s now been well over two years since the 33-year-old Diaz last set foot in the Octagon in a money-spinning rematch with Conor McGregor at UFC 202, which he lost by majority decision.
The fight made Diaz a multi-millionaire and since then he’s appeared to be reluctant to return to fighting despite the UFC’s best efforts.
