Chuck Liddell had an open workout yesterday ahead of his trilogy fight with Tito Ortiz on November 24th and his rival couldn’t resist heckling him from the sidelines as he watched ‘The Iceman’ hit the pads.
Footage of the 48-year-old Liddell training had previously been posted some time ago showing the former UFC light-heavyweight legend appearing to be much slower and more labored than he was in his heyday, and nothing that he saw yesterday struck fear into the heart of Ortiz, despite having been finished twice in the past by the heavy-handed striker.
“That’s only 30 seconds, you can’t be that tired that quick,” Ortiz loudly mocked at one stage as Liddell hit the pads. “You guys, I’m calling this a quick mother-f***ing night – I guarantee it! Guarantee it! That sh*t was like junk! Wow. He’s starting to get old.”
Liddell didn’t offer any comment on what Ortiz had to say, instead continuing to focus on his workout, but the former champion, who has been out of the cage for over eight years, had previously commented on the other footage that had been released of him some time ago.
“They put out a video of me warming up my legs right when I got to the gym,” Liddell said at the time. “I don’t know why they would – out of all the video they took – why they would choose to put that out, I have no idea. I challenge anyone talking trash about it to take one of those kicks I was throwing anyway. They’re not that soft. I was just warming up my legs the way I like to do it. I was just warming up my legs, so it is what it is.”
