Former heavyweight titleholder Stipe Miocic has called for a rematch with Daniel Cormier, but it seems his plea has fallen on deaf ears as far as the current champion goes.
“There’s a ton of guys who never defend the belt and they get title shot rematches,” Miocic had told ESPN’s Ariel Helwani last week. ” I defended it three times, did it as favour for a super fight and I don’t get a rematch?”
However, it seems Cormier doesn’t have a lot of sympathy for his rival.
“He’s being entitled, why have I fought since and he hasn’t,” Cormier stated on Twitter. “He lost the fight is he still the champ?
“Reason 2: I’m hurt. Reason 3: how do I do it better? I beat him in a round last time?”
However, Miocic has since retaliated on the social media site.
“@dc_mma my entitled ass offered to fight you at UFC230 on Nov 3 at MSG. You fought Lewis, while I was fighting fires,” Miocic responded.
Interestingly, Cormier had previously indicated that he would be willing to fight Miocic if a proposed fight with Brock Lesnar fell through, but with that match-up still seeming to be no closer to coming to fruition it appears that the champion has now cooled on the prospect of going up against him again.
