Dana White Hints At Conor McGregor Fighting Donald Cerrone This Summer

Dana White talks to Conor McGregor

UFC President Dana White has hinted at both a timeline and a potential opponent for Conor McGregor’s next fight.

Speaking to MMAJunkie, White stated that he’d “like to see Conor fight this summer,” and then appeared to give his approval for ‘The Notorious’ going up against Donald ‘The Cowboy’ Cerrone.

“Those two want to fight each other; they’ve both earned it,” White said. “‘Cowboy’s’ fought anybody we’ve ever put against him. We throw this young killer Hernandez at him, ‘Cowboy’s’ the underdog and he goes in and does it the way he did it, then Conor’s fought everybody.

“If these two want to fight, I’m down.”

The fight comes at a time when Cerrone is riding a two-fight winning streak, having defeated Mike Perry by submission in the welterweight division and then dropped back down to lightweight, where he TKO’d Alexander Hernandez with a head kick and follow-up punches.

That helped him move on from a rough patch in his career in which he’d lost four out of his previous five fights at welterweight, but taking out his extended run at 170lbs, Cerrone has now won 9 of his last 10 fights at 155lbs.

As for McGregor, he needs to get back to winning ways after having lost to Floyd Mayweather Jr in the boxing ring by TKO in 2017 and then suffering a one-sided beating against Khabib Nurmagomedov in the Octagon last year before being submitted in the fourth round, though of course he’s already financially set for life.
