Colby Covington took his war of word with Dana White to the next level this week when he tracked the UFC President down to a casino in Las Vegas where he was gambling and demanded a title shot.
White’s less than amused reaction was caught on Covington’s Facebook Live videostream as he repeatedly told the former welterweight title contender to turn off his camera.
Covington soon obliged, but the two have since given different accounts about how a face-to-face meeting they had afterwards went.
“Last night, it wasn’t as bad as it looked on video,” White said at the UFC 236 press conference. “We were cool and we talked last night, and face to face, he gets it. He knows he didn’t take the fight (with Tyron Woodley), so he didn’t get the fight.”
Covington saw it differently though.
“He was pissed,” Covington said on The Luke Thomas Show. “He was real pissed, but I don’t give a (expletive). I’m not here to make him happy, and I wanted to let him know, this isn’t fair. There’s justice. You robbed out of a title fight this weekend.
“I’m supposed to be fighting for a title. All the fans want to see me fight for the title – they don’t want to see (Kamaru Usman). They’re giving them (expletive), and say, ‘Oh, it’s filet mignon.’ I’m the filet mignon. I’m the people’s champ. I’m the one everybody came to see.”
In a separate interview with Submission Radio, Covington did admit the meeting hadn’t ended on a bad note, but warned that didn’t mean he was going to change his ways.
“I think it left on decent terms, not terrible terms,” Covington told Submission Radio. “I mean, he doesn’t like me, I don’t like him. We’re not gonna be shy about it. It is what it is. But I need to earn a living, man, I need to be able to do business and fight and make a living, put food on the table for my family.
“So whether it’s in the UFC or somewhere else, you know, I just told him he needs to make up his mind and he better have his mind made up by the end of the weekend.”
And he went on to issue a further threat to continue to hunt down White if he didn’t get what he wanted.
“The thing is, I’m such a powerful person, I know people in Vegas, I know people all around the world, so I will find out where you’re at And Uncle Fester, if you want to play games with me, I’ll find out, I’ll make your life a living hell.
“Last night was a fraction of what I can do. I’ll find you another time. I can keep doing this. So, if you don’t give me what I want, I’m just gonna create a living hell for you and the UFC.”
