Following last night’s UFC Fight Night 146 event in Kansas the recipients of the evening’s $50,000 bonus awards were announced.
Earning ‘Fight Of The Night’ honors was the main event heavyweight battle between Junior dos Santos and Derrick Lewis.
It was a thriller for as long as it lasted, with Junior dos Santos leading the dance, but Lewis throwing potentially huge fight-ending punches and kicks that gave a sense that that bout could end at any moment.
Then JDS landed a big spinning back kick to the body that left Lewis doubled over multiple times, though when his opponent moved in to engage he’d still fire back looking for a finish.
However, in the second round JDS was then able to land big punches on the feet that wobbled ‘The Black Beast’ and sent him falling to the mat, with ground and pound blows then sealing a TKO victory.
Meanwhile, Niko Price earned a $50,000 performance bonus after he endured some huge punches against Tim Means that looked to be taking their toll on him, only to them land a huge counter-hook that felled ‘The Dirty Bird’ and allowed him to land the follow-up strikes on the mat to seal a first round knockout victory.
Beneil Dariush was coming off second best in the stand-up battle with Drew Dober last night and was floored twice, but in the second round he was able to take him to the mat and secure an armbar submission for an impressive come-from-behind victory.
