Sergio Pettis To Fight Alex Perez At UFC Fight Night 159

Sergio Pettis is heading back to flyweight for his next fight against Alex Perez at UFC Fight Night 159 in Mexico City on on September 21st.

Pettis had tried moving up to bantamweight last time out, but that didn’t work out well for him, suffering a convincing decision loss against Rob Font.

The younger brother of former lightweight champion Anthony Pettis, Sergio had also been having some issues at flyweight, having lost two of his past three fights in that weight class, although the two defeats came against high-level opposition in Henry Cejudo and Jussier Formiga.

However, sandwiched inbetween those two defeats was a win over one of the division’s premier talents, Joseph Benavidez, with his overall 125lb record in the UFC standing at 5-3.

Now Pettis will take on Perez who also opted to step up to 135lbs last time out, earning a decision win over Mark De La Rosa back in March.

Before that Perez had suffered a TKO loss against Benavidez, snapping an eight-fight winning streak that had included two victories inside the Octagon.

Pettis vs. Perez joins a UFC Fight Night 159 card that is expected to be headlined by a featherweight fight between Yair Rodriguez vs. Jeremy Stephens.
