Long-time UFC middleweight contender Ronaldo ‘Jacare’ Souza has decided to step up to the light-heavyweight division and he’ll now headline UFC Fight Night 164 opposite Jan Blachowicz in Sao Paulo on November 16th.
Jacare made his mind up to change weight classes after the disappointment of losing out by unanimous decision against Jack Hermansson last time out.
That’s continued a spell of alternating between wins and losses for the 39-year-old over the past few years, picking up victories over the likes of Tim Boetsch, Derek Brunson and Chris Weidman, while his other defeats during that period were against Robert Whittaker and Kelvin Gastelum.
Now he will go up against the 205lb division’s No.5 ranked contender Blachowicz, who is coming off the biggest win of his career, a second round knockout of former middleweight champion Luke Rockhold, who coincidentaly, like Jacare was making his divisional debut.
Prior to that Blachowicz had been TKO’d by Thiago Santos, but with wins in five of his last six Octagon outings he’s currently a major player in the division.
Jacare vs. Blachowicz will headline a UFC Fight Night 164 card that will also feature another 205lb clash between Antonio Rogerio Nogueira and Trevor Smith, while at lightweight Francisco Trinaldo faces off against the returning Bobby Green.
