The UFC may not be putting on events at the moment, but two of it’s top lightweight talents Dustin Poirier and Dan Hooker are still taking it upon themselves to agree to fight once the coronavirus crisis settles down.
“I’m supposed to fight Hooker in May,” Poirier revealed on Twitter after being asked about his next match-up by a fan.
Unfortunately with the way things are going it seems doubtful that will now be possible, but it seems that both fighters have agreed to make sure it happens in the hopefully not too distant future.
“We can fight when the dust settles. Until then I hope you and your family stay healthy,” Hooker replied to Poirier.
“100% same to you, you and your family be safe. We’ll figure it out and get this thing booked,” Poirier responded.
Poirier is coming off an unsuccessful attempt to take the lightweight title from Khabib Nurmagomedov in September of last year, losing out by submission in the third round.
‘The Diamond’ had been on a strong run prior to that though, going six fights without tasting defeat, including victories over the likes of Anthony Pettis, Justin Gaethje, Eddie Alvarez and Max Holloway.
Hooker’s form over the past few years has also made him in a stand-out in the division, including his current three-fight winning streak that’s seem him earn wins over James Vick, Al Iaquinta and Paul Felder.
With seven wins in total from his past eight UFC outings, Hooker is now ranked No.5 in the division, three spots below Poirier at No.2.
