Ray Borg has pulled out of his main card fight with Merab Dvalishvilli this coming Saturday night at UFC Fight Night 172 in Las Vegas due to personal reasons.
While it hasn’t officially been confirmed why he’s withdrawn, a brief twitter post from the fighter himself points to it being due to a family matter.
“Family first, see you soon son,” Borg wrote.
Borg’s son Anthony is known to suffer from a rare condition called Hydrocephalus, which is a brain disease that’s required him to have multiple surgeries durin his life so far, which has meant that the UFC fighter has often had to take time out from his career in order to care for him.
Borg had actually just fought last month at UFC Fight Night 171 in Jacksonville, Floirda, where he suffered a split decision loss to Ray Simon.
Now in his absence the UFC are believed to have targeted Gustavo Lopez as his replacement to make his UFC debut on short notice.
However, there could be a spanner in the works as he is the Combate Americas champion and that promotion’s president Campbell McLaren (better known as the co-creator of the UFC) has fired off a warning shot, stating, “Bad move from @Gustavo11Lopez he’s under contract with @combateamericas.”
