Frankie Edgar and Pedro Munhoz’s bantamweight fight will now take place at UFC 252 on August 15th at the UFC’s APEX facility in Las Vegas.
Originally the fight had been scheduled to go down at UFC On ESPN 13 this coming Wednesday night, but it had to be pulled from the line-up after it emerged that Munhoz had tested positive for Covid-19 prior to flying out to Yas Island.
Now the fight takes place exactly a month later, giving Munhoz time to rid himself of the virus, though it should be noted that he was reported to be asymptomatic and as such it hopefully hasn’t take too much of a physical toll on him.
Munhoz had been preparing to welcome Edgar to the 135lb ranks, while also hoping to return to winning ways after his previous three fight winning streak against the likes of Brett Johns, Bryan Caraway and Cody Garbrandt was snapped by a decision loss to Aljamain Sterling back in June of last year.
Meanwhile, Edgar had been hoping to put the disappointment of a first round TKO loss to The Korean Zombie behind him – a short notice fight he had taken at featherweight while in the midst of preparing to drop down to bantamweight.
Edgar vs Munhoz joins a UFC 252 card that will be headlined by a heavyweight trilogy fight between Stipe Miocic and Daniel Cormier.
