Khabib Wants GSP Fight In April Of 2021; White Interested; St-Pierre Responds

We’ve only recently began salivating at the official announcement of a showdown between Khabib Nurmagomedov and Justin Gaethje in October, but now the lightweight champion has teased a potential superfight he wants to undertake next year.

“October – Justin, April – GSP,” Khabib wrote in response to a post on Instagram from Joe Rogan regarding the Gaethje bout.

It’s not the first time that Khabib has expressed an interest in fighting the currently retired two-division champion, but there seems to be an increased likelihood that it could take place this time around because even Dana White appears to be backing the idea of it, athough the UFC President does still seems to be pining for a Conor McGregor rematch.

“At the end of the day, the Conor McGregor [rematch], I know Conor has wanted that fight since the last one [in October 2018],” White told ESPN.

“That’s a fight to make, but I don’t know. We’ll see how this plays out. Sure, [I would be open to St-Pierre] if it’s his last fight.

This guy’s been great to the company, great to the sport. I like Khabib a lot. I would do anything Khabib wanted to do.”

Furthermore, though St-Pierre had only just the other day reiterated his plan to stay retired, the news of Nurmagomedov’s interest and White’s comments appears to have given him pause for thought.

“Damn! Just when I thought I’d have peace of mind,” GSP reportedly told Ariel Helwani.

“I look forward to watching Khabib and Gaethje in October. Best of luck to them.”
