Former UFC strawweight champion Jessica Andrade has decided to move up to flyweight for her next fight, where she’ll take on Jessica Eye on October 17th.
Andrade had seized the 115lb title back in May of last year when she knocked out Rose Namajunas with a big slam, but she soon lost her grip on the title when Weili Zhang TKO’d her in just 42 seconds.
The Brazilian then returned for a rematch with Namajunas last month, but lost out by split decision and has now decided to test herself at 125lbs.
There she’ll go up against a former flyweight title contender in Eye, who is coming off a unanimous decision loss to another former strawweight fighter Cynthia Calvillo back in June.
A former bantamweight fighter, Eye has gone 4-2 in the flyweight ranks so far, with her only other loss in the division coming in a title bout with current champion Valentina Shevchenko, who KO’d her with a head kick in the summer of last year.
Eye has failed to make the 126lb limit in her past two fights, so she’ll have to make weight this time around or it’s likely that she’ll be forced back up to bantamweight, where she has previously struggled to make an impact, going just winning just once in seven Octagon fights.
