Following last night’s UFC Fight Night 178 event in Las Vegas the recipients of the evening’s $50,000 bonus awards were announced.
On a night of exciting finishes the UFC dispensed with the usual ‘Fight Of The Night’ bonus and instead opted for four ‘Performance Of The Night’ awards.
No one will be surprised to learn that among them was Khamzat Chimaev, who managed to add extra horsepower to his hype train by KO’ing Gerald Meerschaert with his first punch of the fight after just 17 seconds, extending his unbeaten record to 9-0 in the process.
Also earning a performance bonus on the main card was Mackenzie Dern who brought her world-class Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu to bear in the first round of her fight with Randa Markos, slickly improving her position on the mat until she locked up an armbar submission finish.
Randy Costa also earned a quick KO victory against Journey Newson on the night courtesy of a big head kick only 41 seconds into the fight.
Rounding off the bonus winners was late replacement Damon Jackson, who had a remarkable underdog victory in the prelims against the heavily favored Mirsad Bektic, who had beaten him in the first two rounds, only to then be caught in a guillotine choke in the final five minutes.
