Given what he’s accomplished throughout his career, it’s remarkable to think that Carlos Condit’s victory over Court McGee at UFC On ESPN 16 last night was his first win in over five years.
Condit had been on a rough downward spiral since agonizingly losing out by split decision in a brutal title fight with Robbie Lawler.
That would be the first in what turned out to be a five fight losing streak for ‘The Natural Born Killer’ and led to him seriously considering hanging up his gloves for good.
However, After an almost two-year absence from the Octagon, the now 38-year-old Condit returned to fight McGee on Fight Island last night and was rewarded with a unanimous decision victory that’s confirmed to the veteran that he still has the desire to lock horns with the best in the sport.
“Competing at this level for a long period of time, you’re going to have wins and losses. I’m still about it. I still have fire in my gut,” Condit said post-fight. “This fits right into the craziness of 2020 for me. It’s been a while since I’ve had a win. I haven’t fought in almost two years. It feels really good.”
“I love this. I love what I do—win or lose. I’m a competitor. I come here to show up and get my hand raised.”
