Norma Dumont clearly had the advantage over Ashlee Evans-Smith for much of their fight tonight at UFC On ESPN 18 on her way to a solid unanimous decision victory.
Round One:
Inside leg kick from Evans-Smith. She misses with a couple of other kicks. Inside leg kick does land again though.
Body kick for Evans-Smith now lands solidly and Dumont lands a punch on the counter. Feeling out process and then a leg kick for Dumont.
Evans-Smith trying to attack but Dumont throws a right hand. Now a one-two from Dumont. Evans-Smith leading the dance here, but Dumont trying to pick her off on the counter.
Spinning body kick attempt from Dumont that misses. She does land a couple of punches upstairs though. Inside leg kick from Evans-Smith, but then Dumont fires off more punches.
Solid straight right from Dumont lands cleanly. Half-hearted kick from Evans-Smith and Dumont lands a punch again.
Hook for Evans-Smith and Dumont lets her hands go and then gets into the clinch against the cage. They don’t spend too long there though before going back to striking range.
Knees to the body exchanged and then Dumont lands a takedown. she’s in Evans-Smith guard here, but not with much time to work. Dumont postures and lands a few punches before the horn sounds.
Round Two:
Body kick from Evans-Smith and then a front kick attempt, and Dumont throws punches in response. Another one-two from Dumont without landing cleanly.
Head and arm throw from Evans-Smith, but then Dumont scrambles and rolls to get on top. Evans-Smith trying to get up, but Dumont brings her down again.
Dumont landing a few strikes as she tries to move into mount. She manages to do so and has a lot of time to work from this advantageous position.
Elbow from Dumont. Evans-Smith trying to buck her off as Dumont lands a few punches. Now elbows for Dumont as she moves to side control, but now Evans-Smith has some space and manages to get up.
Evans-Smith trying to move forward with more purpose now, but Dumont does still land a right hand.
Again Evans-Smith tries to get something going and eats a punch. Now a leg kick for Dumont. She lands a left hook counter.
Hard leg kick for Dumont. Body kick for Evans-Smith. Dumont throws a heavy combination of punches. Counter jab from Dumont. Head kick attempt from Evans-Smith doesn’t pay off as the round ends.
Round Three:
Body kick for Evans-Smith and eats punches in return. Evans-Smith with a head kick attempt. Solid one-two for Dumont.
Counter jab for Dumont. Now a one-two. Evans-Smith fakes a takedown and then lands a knee to the body, but eats an elbow in return.
Body kick from Evans-Smith. Dumont always waiting to counter. Dumont with a crisp one-two. leg kick for Dumont as Evans-Smith lands a punch. Leg kick again from Dumont.
Calf kick for Dumont. Three-piece combo as Evans-Smith puts up her guard. Evans-Smith gets into the clinch against the cage, but Dumont muscles her around and soon after breaks back to the center of the Octagon.
Evans-Smith with a front kick and Dumont lands punches. Another flurry of punches from Dumont and Evans-Smith’s legs buckle.
Evans-Smith hangs onto a takedown attempt to survive and gets back up. Dumont brings Evans-Smith down again in the final seconds of the round, but will have to settle for the win on the scorecards.
Decision:
No doubt about the winner, Dumont was the better fighter throughout, being faster, more powerful and accurate in the striking exchanges en-route to a unanimous decision victory (30-27 x3).
