Jose Aldo has called out Cody Garbrandt to fight him and it seems that ‘No Love’ is all-in on the idea.
Aldo had initially linked Garbrandt and the UFC matchmaker’s to an online poll that showed 93% of fans wanted to see the match-up, while stating, “Sign the contract, let’s goo!”
Garbrandt then eagerly agreed to the chance to fight the former long-time featherweight champion.
“Legend, let’s get after it,” Garbrandt responded.
“We doing this @josealdojunior @danawhite?? We both say send the contracts.”
The 34-year-old Aldo is coming off his first win in the bantamweight division against Marlon Vera by unanimous decision back in December.
Aldo had moved down to 135lbs a year earlier to fight Marlon Moraes, but lost by split decision. The result was controversial enough that Aldo still managed to find himself fighting for the vacant bantamweight title fight against Petr Yan in the summer of last year, but lost by TKO.
As for Garbrandt, he is of course a former bantamweight champion, but the 29-year-old has had to endure a tough few years in which he was TKO’d in back-to-back fights against his former teammate turned rival TJ Dillashaw, followed by a first round KO loss against Pedro Munhoz.
Injuries and ailments have also plagued the former champion, but he did get back to winning ways last June in style with a KO victory against Raphael Assuncao, though he’s since suffered from the effects of ‘Long Covid’, which has delayed his return to action until now.
It remains to be seen if the UFC will go ahead and book this fight, but it’s certainly an exciting match-up that fans will be eager to watch play out if it does become a reality.
