A welterweight fight between Neil Magny and Geoff Neal has been booked for May 8th’s, UFC On ESPN 24 event.
The UFC previously tried to put this match-up together at UFC Fight Night 175 in August of last year, but it then had to be scrapped after Neal came down with pneumonia and later evolved to sepsis.
Neal has since made a full recovery, but a fight against Stephen Thompson in December didn’t go his way, losing by unanimous decision.
That ended Neal’s five-fight unbeaten run since joining the UFC in 2018, having defeated the likes of Belal Muhammad, Niko Price and Mike Perry along the way.
When Neal dropped out last year, Magny went on to fight Robbie Lawler instead and beat him by unanimous decision to extend his winning streak to three fights.
However, Magny started of 2021 with a decision loss to Michael Chiesa, leaving him ranked No.9 in the division heading into this fight, with neal two spots behind him at No.11.
Magny vs. Neal joins a UFC On ESPN 24 event that will be headlined by bantamweight action as TJ Dillashaw returns to fight Cory Sandhagen, while Diego Sanchez’s final fight against Donald Cerrone and Amanda Ribas vs. Angela Hill also feature on the card.
