Conor McGregor certainly appears to have taken notice of Kamaru Usman’s incredible KO of Jorge Masvidal on Saturday night at UFC 261 as he’s now started verbally sparring with him on social media.
it began with McGregor posting up a video of him fighting Dustin Poirier earlier this year, while suggesting that Usman’s fight-ending punch on Saturday night was copying the technique he was using.
“Usman even copying my shots now,” McGregor wrote on Twitter. “Am I to fight this guy at some stage?
“I think so. Can’t be copying my words and my shots and not get a smack for it. I like 170. It’s mine soon.
Usman quickly retaliated, throwing shade on McGregor’s KO ability.
“Except when I touch you at 170, they go out,” Usman responded. “They don’t even go out at 155 anymore for you. I finish people. You get finished.”
McGregor then switched gears, accusing Usman of taking steroids.
“Relax there, carbuncles,” McGregor wrote. “You big spotty back pox. You were ringside last time I fought at 170. 40 seconds is all it took. Why did you reschedule Burns fight ? What was the reason, that was never given to the public, why that already signed fight was then rescheduled?
“Never in all my time in this business, which is long before all of these fucking bums, have I ever seen a signed fight get rescheduled with no reason given whatsoever. So said fighter can recover from “undisclosed injuries”. Excuse me what? The fight is signed/sealed/tix sold.”
‘The Notorious’ then went on to suggest that he may be targetting a new UFC record – winning titles in three different weight classes by claiming the welterweight title.
“Fuck these juice heads anyway, I don’t give a bollox. I’m just calling it as it is. I’ve the biggest balls in Ireland with two lump hammers attached to me elbows. Send me in and I’ll pop that big pimple. Get 3 belts to go with my 3 commas.”
Usman then went on to suggest that he’d already been willing to fight him in the past, and that it was McGregor who had ducked the match-up.
“I offered you the fight and you went missing,” Usman fired back. “Let’s stay humble young man. I already took your pride. Don’t make me take your whiskey too ;)”
Despite McGregor appearing to be targeting the fight with Usman, it seems highly unlikely that’s going to happen any time soon.
McGregor already has his hands full with his upcoming trilogy fight against Dustin Poirier, and a win there would put him in pole position to then fight for the lightweight title against whoever emerges as the champion in the upcoming Charles Oliveira vs. Michael Chandler fight, while a loss to ‘The Diamond’ would shut down any thought of challenging Usman for the 170lb belt for the time being.
