Donald Cerrone has a late replacement opponent for this coming Saturday night’s UFC On ESPN 24 event after Diego Sanchez was abruptly released from the promotion last week.
Cerrone will now go up against Alex Morono, who is coming off a unanimous decision loss to Anthony Pettis back in December of last year.
In total the 30-year-old Morono has compiled a 7-4 (+1nc) record during his four year stint in the UFC, but he’s yet to record a victory over a ‘big name’ fighter like Cerrone, with his most notable wins so far coming against the likes of Max Griffin, Zak Ottow and Josh Burkman.
As for Cerrone, he was looking forward to settling the score with his former training partner Sanchez, who he’d had bad blood with in recent years, but now he’ll just be focused on trying to get back to winning ways, having now gone five fights without getting his hand raised.
Cerrone’s level of competition has been consistently high during that period though, with four of those losses coming against Tony Ferguson, Justin Gaethje, Conor McGregor and Anthony Pettis, while his last outing against Niko Price ended in a majority draw, but was later amended to a no-contest after his opponent tested positive for marijuana.
Cerrone vs. Morono settles into a UFC On ESPN 24 card that is expected to be headlined by Michelle Waterson and Marina Rodriguez.
