A women’s flyweight fight between Joanne Calderwood and Alexa Grassa has been booked for UFC Fight Night 189 on November 20th.
Calderwood has struggled to put together a consistent winning run in recent times and so is attempting to bounce back again after a split decision loss to Lauren Murphy in June.
Prior to that had picked up notable wins over the likes of Jessica Eye and Andrea Lee, sandwiched inbetween a submission loss to Jennifer Maia, all of which leaves her ranked No.6 in the division heading into her next fight.
Meanwhile, Grasso also had a habit of bouncing between wins and losses while competing at strawweight, but a move up to flyweight last year appears to have paid off as she’s since put together two wins in a row against Ji Yeon Kim and then Maycee Barber.
A win over Calderwood would confirm that the 27-year-old Grasso is now living up to her potential and could propel her upwards from her current No.10 spot on the 125lb rankings.
Calderwood vs. Grasso is currently the only fight in place for the UFC Fight Night 198 show, which does not yet have a confirmed destination, but if the rest of the year is anything to go by then it’s likely to be in Las Vegas.
