Despite being on one of the longest losing streaks in UFC history, Sam Alvey has just been handed another lifeline by the promotion as he’s now booked to fight Ian Heinisch at UFC Fight Night 202 on February 5th.
You’d have to go back to June of 2018 to find Alvey’s last win, a split decision nod over Gian Villante. Since then the 35-year-old has suffered two TKO losses in a row to Antonio Rogerio Nogueira and Jimmy Crute, followed by two decision losses against Kidson Abreu and Ryan Spann, a split draw with Da Un Jung and then two more losses this year against Julian Marquez and Wellington Turman.
As for Heinisch, he’s been a tough go of it in the middleweight ranks too of late, winning only one of his last five fights.
That includes decision losses to Derek Brunson, Omari Akhmedov and Kelvin Gastelum, along with his most recent TKO defeat against Nassourdine Imavov, with his solitary win during this period coming against Gerald Meerschaert in June of last year.
Alvey vs Heinisch joins a UFC Fight Night 202 card that doesn’t yet have a main event confirmed or an intended location, with it being unclear at this stage whether the UFC will look to branch out beyond their own Las Vegas HQ for the ‘Fight Night’ series in 2022.
