Jim Miller had to battle through some early adversity against newcomer Erick Gonzalez tonight at UFC Fight Night 195, but it all worked out in the end as he secured a rare KO victory early in the second round.
Round One
Gonzalez starts looking to pressure Gonzalez with punches and kicks, but Miller works a kick and couple of punches and then works into the clinch.
Miller pressing him into the cage and they trade knees. Gonzalez does well to get off the cage and then surprise Miller by taking him down. Gonzalez briefly in half-guard, but then back into full guard. Miller able to get space and stands, with Gonzalez threatening with a head kick attempt that could have been illegal if it landed.
Gonzalez letting his hands go here and Miller seems troubled and staggers forward, but then turns that into a takedown attempt and gets Gonzalez down.
Important stuff for Miller to reset and gain some momentum of his own. Not able to get much going though and then Gonzalez is able to get back upright.
Gonzalez back to the pressure on the feet but a nice left from Miller seems to trouble his opponent momentarily and he’s breathing quite heavily.
Another left lands for Miller and more punches behind it as the veteran really starts to turn the tables here. Gonzalez hanging in there though and makes it to the end of the round.
Round Two:
Lunging punch from Gonzalez. He attempts a kick upstairs, comes up short and then Miller blasts him with a huge left hand counter that drops Gonzalez hard, securing an impressive highlight reel KO at 14 seconds of the second round.
