A welterweight fight between former title contender Stephen Thompson and Belal Muhammad has been announced for UFC 269 on December 11th in Las Vegas.
Thompson is looking to get back to winning ways after losing out to Gilbert Burns by unanimous decision in his last Octagon outing back in July.
Thompson had notched up two wins in a row over Vicente Luque and Geoff Neal leading into that fight, but having also lost to Anthony Pettis and Darren Till beforehand it leaves him currently placed at No.5 in the 170lb rankings.
Meanwhile, Muhammad is currently riding a six-fight unbeaten run that’s taken him to No.9 on the ladder.
During that period he’s notched up wins over the likes of Lyman Good, Dhiego Lima and most recently Demian Maia back in June of this year.
However, there is a caveat as in March he went up against Leon Edwards and was clearly coming off second-best, but he then suffered an eye-poke in the second round that left him unable to continue, resulting in a no-contest ruling.
Thompson vs. Muhammad joins a UFC 269 card that will be headlined by two title fights, with lightweight champion Charles Oliveira going up against Dustin Poirier in the main event, while Amanda Nunes defends her bantamweight title against Julianna Pena in the co-main event.
