Frankie Edgar has stated that he’s still undecided on whether he’s going to retire after some tough losses in the Octagon over the past few years.
“I don’t know, we’ll see,” Edgar told MMA Junkie Radio. “I’m still seeing what’s next. No decisions on anything right now.”
“I’m doing the goals that I want to do. I’ve accomplished a lot in this game. I’m just being myself and finishing this out. We’ll see how we finish this out. Still a lot of undecided stuff.”
Now 40-years-old, Edgar’s 2021 campaign proved to be something of a disaster, with the veteran suffering a flying knee KO loss to Cory Sandhagen in February of that year, followed by a front kick knockout by Marlon Vera in November.
Throw in the fact that over the past four years he’d also been TKO’d by The Korean Zombie and KO’d by Brian Ortega, both in the first round, having never been finished in his long career before that and it would seem like Edgar’s caution about returning to the Octagon is justified.
That being said, his manager Ali Abdelaziz is eager to get him a retirement fight later this year.
“I love this man… I would like Frankie to say bye bye to the fans, maybe Madison Square Garden in November,” Abdelaziz told ESPN last week. “That’ll be his retirement fight. Get him a good matchup, talk to my man Sean (Shelby)… All of us (will) get to say bye-bye to Frankie in Madison Square Garden. It’ll make me sad. I think the man is a future Hall of Famer… You cannot find a better man in this game than him.”
