A women’s flyweight fight between Miesha Tate and Lauren Murphy has been withdrawn from next weekend’s UFC 276 card during International Fight Week in Las Vegas.
Tate vs. Murphy had been scheduled to be one of the five main card fights on the star-studded line-up, but the word is that Murphy has had to withdraw for undisclosed reasons and so the fight is now expected to be postponed until an as-yet unconfirmed date.
This is the second time the fight has been shifted as it was originally scheduled to take place at UFC On ESPN 36 before being moved to UFC 276 for unknown reasons.
The bout had been set to provide Tate’s first outing at flyweight, with the former bantamweight champion looking to change things up after suffering a unanimous decision loss to Ketlen Vieira back in November of last year.
As for Murphy, her last outing was an unsuccessful attempt to seize the flyweight title from Valentina Shevchenko, losing out by a fourth round TKO stoppage in September of last year, ending a five-fight winning streak in the division.
At this stage there’s no word on which fight may take Tate vs. Murphy’s spot on the main card, and there’s no shortage of options further down the card. For instance, the likes of Robbie Lawler vs. Bryan Barberena and Jim Miller vs. Donald Cerrone lurk in the main prelims, though that section of the card is scheduled to air on ABC along with ESPN, so the UFC brass may be reluctant to alter that line-up.
However, even if that is the case there’s still plenty of other candidates in the earlier portion of the prelims, which includes the likes of Uriah Hall vs. Andre Muniz and Jessica Eye vs. Maycee Barber.
