Another major lightweight fight has been booked for UFC 280 in Abu Dhabi on October 22nd, with Beneil Dariush going up against Mateusz Gamrot on the same card as the vacant 155lb title bout between Charles Oliveira and Islam Makhachev.
Dariush is another of the division’s most in-form fighters, having compiled a seven-fight winning streak over the past four years.
Along the way he’s beaten the likes of Tony Ferguson, Carlos Diego Ferreira and Drakkar Klose, while picking up two stoppages via KO and two by submission.
That’s left the 33-year-old ranked at No.6 in the division and he had been campaigning to fight Oliviera and was also in the mix to go up against Makhachev too, before ultimately those two stars were paired together to fight for the belt.
Meanwhile, Gamrot has emerged as another force to be reckoned with in the division with his own four-fight unbeaten run since just April of last year.
During that time he’s beaten Scott Holtzman, Jeremy Stephens, Carlos Diego Ferreira and most recently Arman Tsarukyan to claim a spot on the top 10 rankings at No.9.
So, Dariush vs. Gamrot further bolsters a UFC 280: Oliveira vs. Makhachev card that is also expected to feature a co-main event bantamweight title fight between Aljamain Sterling and TJ Dillashaw along with a welterweight clash between Belal Muhammad and Sean Brady.
