As light-heavyweight fight between Johnny Walker and Ion Cutelaba has been signed for UFC 279 in Las Vegas on September 10th.
The match-up announcement comes at a time when both men are in desperate need of a reversal in fortunes after coming up empty-handed in many of their recent Octagon outings.
For instance, the 30-year-old Walker has last four of his last five fights, with the only bright spot being a first round KO victory over Ryan Spann back in 2020.
However, that was sandwiched inbetween a TKO loss to Corey Anderson and decision defeat against Nikita Krylov on one side and a decision loss to Thiago Santos followed by a KO defeat against Jamahal Hill last time out.
As Cutelaba, he’s only got a win and a draw to show from his last five appearances, coming against Devin Clark and Dustin Jacoby respectively.
Meanwhile, his losses came via TKO and then KO in the first round during back-to-back fights with Magomed Ankalaev in 2020, while most recently he was submitted by Ryan Spann in the first round too.
Walker vs. Cutelaba joins a UFC 279 card that will be headlined by Khamzat Chimaev vs. Nate Diaz, but does not yet have a confirmed co-main event at this stage.
