Dana White, President of UFC once famously told a reporter that UFC will never have a female fighter. Regardless of the power he wields in this sport, ultimately Dana White is a business man and had always centred his decision on what is best for the corporation. His original stance on female fighting was not sexist but on the practical consideration that MMA was already notorious for being bloody and violent. For a long time fans of the sport are often criticised as being ‘sadists’ and he was already having a challenging time convincing the world of the athletic virtues of MMA without the extra task to persuade people to watch a woman get beaten up.

He changed his mind when he met Ronda Rousey who impressed him with her excellent skills, her outgoing and very marketable personality and her photogenic good looks. Thus it was only fitting that some three years after Dana White said ‘Never’ that Ronda Rousey would star as the main headliner for UFC 184.
