An Idiot’s Guide to Aussie and Kiwi Fighters UFC Fight Night 65: Part 1

Just because you are nicknamed ‘Rowdy’

To be fair, ‘Rowdy’ was possibly Bec Rawling’s nickname even before the other bigger, better ‘Rowdy’ became the ultimate shining star of Women MMA. It is the way Australians nickname their mates, a shorten version of their first or last name. John becomes Jonno, Griffins becomes Griffo, Rawling becomes Rowdy.

Making history: Two Australian sportswomen become first to enter ...

The two women fighters that Australia had to show case for UFC Fight Night 65 are hopefully not the best the country has to offer WMMA. Both Bec Rawlings and Alex Chambers were contenders for the first UFC Women Strawweight in the 2014 Ultimate Fighter series. Neither had won any fights in UFC including exhibition fights. Rawlings had a couple of impressive wins earlier in her career; she once won by submission within 21 seconds then knocking out another opponent within 37 seconds into her fight both in 2012. Alex Chambers’ claim to fame is her record of being the lightest fighter in UFC history. Hopefully in their home country at least one of them will be able to bring back a maiden UFC win.
