Bellator 157 Results

Bellator 157: Dynamite 2 took place last night and we’ve got all the results for you below.

In the main event of the evening, Quinton ‘Rampage’ Jackson returned to the Bellator cage for the first time in two years and found the going tough against former Olympic gold medal Judoka Satoshi Ishii.

Ishii was able to take ‘Rampage’ a couple of times in the first round with trip takedowns, but didn’t do a whole lot on the mat.

In the second the Japanese fighter again got Jackson down, but when he eventually worked his way back to his feet. Ishii opted to stay tight with him in the clinch against the cage, leading to a lack of action, though ‘Rampage’ was staying the busier of the two offensively, landing uppercuts and attempting to connect with knees.

In the final round ‘Rampage’ was able to stuff a takedown attempt from Ishii that allowed him to get on top for a change, and he landed some ground and pound from the position to help ensure he won that round.

It wasn’t a great performance by either man by any stretch of the imagination, but ‘Rampage’ did just enough to earn a split decision victory (29-28, 28-29, 30-27).

In the co-main event, Michael Chandler reclaimed the Bellator lightweight title with a knockout victory against Patricky Freire, blasting him with a right hand hand at the 2.14min mark of the first round that put him out cold.

Earlier in the evening former UFC fighter Matt Mitrione found himself in danger early in the first round of his Bellator debut against Carl Seumanutafa who floored him with a right hook to the chin and then blasted away with ground and pound as ‘Meathead’ was forced to just cover up.

Luckily for Mitrione, referee John McCarthy opted not to call an end to the fight, and he was then able to spin around and get on top of Seumantutafa. Mitrione tried to land some ground and pound and then stood back up over his opponent, before dropping in with a huge right hand that landed clean.

Seumanutafa was badly rocked by that and Mitrione decided for himself that the fight was over, walking away as his opponent lay dazed and the ref stepped in to end the fight, handing Mitrione a KO victory at 3.22mins of the first round.
