Bellator 165 took place last night and we’ve got all the results for you below.
The main event of the evening was a thrilling lightweight title fight that saw Michael Chandler successfully defend his lightweight title against former UFC lightweight title holder Ben Henderson by split decision.
The first round undoubtedly belonged to the champion Chandler who essentially landed Henderson on his head with a suplex at one stage and then threatened with the guillotine choke and ground and pound.
The second round was more evenly balanced on the feet, but Chandler got the better of the third as he maintained top control in the final minutes of the stanza and forced Henderson to scramble out of another guillotine choke attempt.
Chandler dumped Henderson to the mat early in the fourth and would take him down a few times over the course of the round, though ‘Smooth’ would threaten with kimura submissions and a choke that forced the champion to flip over him in order to escape from.
In the final round Henderson came on strong trying to find a finish from strikes and submission attempts, but Chandler was able to hang on in there and that would prove to be enough to earn him the nod from two of the three judges for the split decision win (48-46, 46-48, 48-47).
Having successfully defended the belt for the first time, Chandler is now on a four-fight winning streak, while Henderson’s big decision to move to leave the UFC for Bellator hasn’t worked out so far, having failed in his attempts to claim both the 155 and 170lb titles during a 1-2 stint to date.
In the co-main event, the much hyped Michael ‘Venom’ Page disappointed with an underwhelming split decision victory over Fernando Gonzalez.
Elsehwere, Linton Vassell claimed a dominant unanimous decision victory over Francis Carmont, but it was Keri Anne Melendez (wife of UFC fighter Gilbert Melendez) who got everyone talking with her MMA debut ending in a 47 second KO victory over Shela Padilla.
